Roblox Tutorial Forum!

16 10 2009

My friend Phoenixroolz234 decided to make a new tutorial forum for the benefit of those who are annoyed with the Roblox Wiki being locked for normal users. Now you can ask for help and get it from the public! No more locked pages! (Unless you break the rules).

You can find the link in the blog roll and below. Enjoy!

History Quicky: Are92 vs Cybersword

30 09 2009

Are92 told me that once, back in the old days, he had an epic duel with Cybersword, and the results were humiliating for one of the two. Interested in finding out who and why? Keep reading.

You may all know Cybersword. One day, he had gone around bragging about how he was the best fighter in ROBLOX, and that he was better than Are92. With that in mind, Are92 decided to challenge him to a duel. Cybersword, as arrogant as he was, accepted the challenge, and brought his girlfriend along so that he could impress her.

In the end, Are92 was victorious, and Cybersword suffered a humiliating defeat; Right in front of his girlfriend! After that little episode, Cybersword and his girlfriend broke up because Cybersword was so weak. …Nah, I’m just kidding. After all, it’s just a game. Why would she break up over a game?

I’m sure Cybersword is less arrogant now than he was then, so don’t get him wrong. He’s a good guy.

Quick note for you guys

16 09 2009

I just deleted a Roblox Ambassador program comment from the Spam folder. I don’t know why they did it, but it was kinda stupid if you ask me.

DO NOT POST ROBLOX AMBASSADOR LINKS ON THIS WEBSITE.

Now there are a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t do this.

  1. WE ALREADY KNOW ABOUT ROBLOX, considering this is basically a ROBLOX fansite. >_> You’re trying to advertise a game that everyone who visits this site already knows about.
  2. IT IS SPAM. Do you really think I need people trying to advertise stupid stuff on this website? It’s advertising. It’s stupid. Don’t do it. This also applies to “We already know about Roblox.”
  3. IT IS POINTLESS. As I said, we know about Roblox. Trying to post Ambassador stuff on this site won’t help you get the Ambassador badge (which isn’t even worth obtaining anyway. You seriously want to get pixels by advertising? Especially about a game we already know about?).

Any ROBLOX Ambassador posts will be automatically detected as spam, and I will delete it. Save yourself the trouble and don’t post ROBLOX Ambassador links here.

I Need Your Help!

6 09 2009

As you know, I’ve got lots of posts about the past of ROBLOX. But working alone, I’m running out of things to write about! I need your help. Send me a PM on ROBLOX (XiaoXiaoMan, obviously O_o) or leave a comment in this post with your questions about the past!

Don’t let the site die due to a lack of things to write about! Send me your questions!

A Hair Raising Special – Now and Then

14 07 2009

You remember how ROBLOX recently released new hats in the form of hair. Personally, I have never seen anything so stupid in my days in ROBLOX. But that’s just me, and pletny others. At the same time, plenty of people enjoy the hair as well. Hair had been in development for a few years, actually. Just look at this picture from an article entitled “A Hairy Problem,” posted May 3rd, 2007.

A Hairy Problem

Hair in the Beta Stage

Eww… And now they’ve finally got hair.

Hair Today...

Hair Today...

…Gone tomorrow. Yeah, I wish… Hey, wait a second… That last one isn’t hair, that’s a candle! Well, you get the idea. Returning to the topic at hand, it looks like they finally got something. But you still can’t wear it with other hats unless you use the no-longer-rare double hat glitch. And even then, it still looks ugly. It failed then, it fails now. Nothing has changed.

Roblox Takes Flight!

31 05 2009

Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a noob getting shot out of a catapult! No! It’s Stealth Pilot! …Wait a minute, he IS in a plane!

You may know Stealth Pilot on ROBLOX, formerly known as PilotLuke and Indiana Jones. One of the most famous and popular of the ROBLOX moderators, Stealth Pilot took ROBLOX to flight in 2006/2007 with his amazing creation: Planes. Planes have been used in ROBLOX for a while. They’ve made appearances in Telamon’s mountainous dogfight map called Nevermoor’s Blight, on board pixelpenguin’s Aircraft Carriers, and in the Pacific skies of LuckyGlues’s dogfight map. In addition, they’re extremely popular for use at the end of just about every obstacle course ever made in ROBLOX.

Stealth Pilot’s contribution made a major impact on ROBLOX history, encouraging other players to build their own planes off of Stealth Pilot’s hangar system. The hangar comes complete with a regeneration system and planes equipped with guns to blast their enemies out of the air. The V3 plane is efficient and extremely common. It is also capable of performing 180-degree turns and barrel rolls at the push of a button. Press T, and your plane will turn around. Press G, and the plane will perform a barrel roll. However, the barrel roll function is not widely known of and is seldom used.

The older planes created by Stealth Pilot relied on the plane tool as well, but the pilot would have to instead click on the green button with the tool equipped to start the plane, and the red button to stop it. In addition, the plane was very sensitive; it sometimes exploded at the slightest touch! Ever since the release of the V3 plane, the older planes seem to have been long abandoned.

Nowadays, people are making even better ways to modify the creation made famous by Stealth Pilot. The plane system and scripts were kept intact and modified in order to make cars used by players such as CrashFM and shockdude. Although they sometimes seem to defy the laws of gravity, they’re still a lot of fun to use. Meanwhile, people such as xLEGOx and LuckyGlues are creating  new ways to steer the planes, including feedback from the player’s camera. Using the new VehicleSeat and his scripting skills, Anaminus also managed to make his own planes.

On land or in the skies, planes are evolutionary ROBLOX creations. They have been used ever since they were brought into the world of ROBLOX by Stealth Pilot, and the only direction it seems the planes can go is the same direction they were designed to go: Up.

Past ROBLOX Projects

17 05 2009

I’ve made a lot of ROBLOX places in my days on ROBLOX. Some of them were hard to let go. I didn’t get rid of them because I hated them. In fact, I cherish every single one of my old places. Here’s a list of all the old projects I’ve made.

XXM’s Obstacle Course – If there was one thing I loved in ROBLOX, it was obstacle courses. Inspired by all the obstacle courses I had ever visited (especially manta26’s), I thought it would be fun to make my own. The obstacle course wasn’t the best ever, but it was a lot of fun to play. It had unique and fun challenges, including one called “Dive! Dive! Dive!” In it, the player could dive into a large pool of water and avoid the whirlpools. The prizes at the end were a few weapons, planes, and a small paintball arena. I still love the place- I absolutely love it. I had to get rid of it because it seemed to lag a lot. It saddened me, but I tried to compensate with another map.

Team Paintball ~ Field of Traps – The first thing to notice about this place is the second part of the name: “Field of Traps”. Using basic scripting, I filled the arena with traps. The first type trapped the player in a small room, and the only way out was by suicide. The second type dropped a random rock onto the player, crushing and killing them, which was really funny to watch. The third type was a fake Balefire giver that would instead trap you in a room and crush you with a giant ball. Strike! The fourth type would teleport the player into a hallway with a rocket launcher at the other end. When they reached the middle of the hallway, the floor would fall out from under them. Another fun-to-watch trap. If they somehow did get to the other side, they would still be screwed over because not only can they not get back, but the rocket launcher was also fake. The admin room consisted of a rocket-shooting stick, a shield, a force field, an M60, and planes. The place also included robots like legokid and a hall of fame out of range of paintball fire.

Sword Fight on the Highway – Sword fight on the… wait WHAT?! That’s right, on the highway. The goal of this place was to use your sword to not only kill other players, but also to stay alive. If you fell on the highway, you’d perish. This place didn’t feature any special admin weapons, but it did include Aeacus’s Admin Command Suite.

WPBC Winter Wonderland – I built this place for the Winter Playland Building Contest (WPBC). The snowmen at the spawn were my design; they were my first all-mesh models. The only  things I got out of free models were the top hat mesh and the antlers mesh. The place consisted of a mountain and a variety of sleds, a frozen river to ride snowmobiles on, and a bunch of rides inspired by JJ5×5’s Thrillville. I even through in his Gameshow… thing. XD Despite my effort, it didn’t win.

Walk on Water CTF – An ex-Kiseki map submission. I was going to give it to Conix, but I just thought “Forget it”. Not worth it if he’s gonna get the tickets for my creation. Later, I fixed it up a bit and published it to ROBLOX for my own purposes. The place was built from 100% scratch with a couple scripts dissected from other places, like Rocket Fight Advanced and Sword Fight on the Heights, and modified them to fit my own needs. It also includes my own scripting, such as a water float script, precipitation script, and a game mode script. The game mode script allows for single player games if players are alone in the map waiting for competition. In this case, zombie attack. If another player entered the map, the single player game ended and the multi-player versus match began. The weapons given to fighters were a sword, superball, rocket launcher, and a Leap tool. The Leap tool, when used, causees the player to escalate high above the map, and then back down. It was useful for flying out of the water, where players could drown if they fell below the surface. The flags were on the walls of each other’s base. Sideways. Players could either leap for it or blast it down with a rocket. As original and lag-free as the place was, it didn’t see many visits. However, you can still play it on the ROBLOX test server.

River Rider – Revisiting PlaceRebuilder’s Waterfall place made me want to bring back the river ride I had made on my Lamborghini4ever account. When I think about it now, I don’t actually remember getting this place past the Beta stage. The game had four different levels: Waterfall, the Cliffs of Nil, Pirate Attack, and Lava Survival. The prizes at the end were a dance tool (LOLWUT) and access to the sword fight arena. Testers were given a command that allowed them to turn invisible. I gave the ability to testers who were a big help to me, including jacbob, Ravenshield, and mfsoccer94. I put a lot of effort into the place, even though it sounds like nothing but free models. The lava is actually my own scripting, and the entire river was created by my hands. As an added bonus, I threw in a secret area that reminds people of Sword Fight on the Heights that, at the end, crushes them with a Lolcat Bible and makes them spawn with an LOL sign on their head. The entrance to the mini obstacle course was hard to find, but it was really hidden in plain sight. I only showed a few people the obstacle course, and almost none of them made it through on their first try. I guess they weren’t really avid gamers. But the river ride itself was relatively popular and a lot of fun to ride.

Ultimate Paintball – I began to notice many people wanted to get the old paintball map back. Seeing that, I thought it would be fun to bring it back. With that, I put up miked’s Ultimate Paintball map, giving him total credit for it (And none to whoever hacked to get it. They don’t deserve it). The place was also a bit of an opportunity for me to be able to experiment with miked’s special admin script. I had a lot of fun playing around with it, but I soon saw no point in keeping the map up. So I replaced it.

That’s about all the old projects I’ve had on my account. Keep it here on my website for more history. :D

Plastic Men and Iron Blades

5 05 2009

There are a lot of melee weapons out ther in ROBLOX. Some people have made Lightsabers. Conix and Clockwork gave the Butcher and Sensation Man class a chainsaw. While all these melee weapons are fun, the first real melee weapon was introduced April 12th, 2007: The sword. By simply touching the sword, the victim will take 5 damage right off the bat. Click once, and you’ll perform a slash, which inflicts double the damage. Click twice, and your character will lunge, inflicting triple the damage of a slash attack.

The first map to ever use swords was Telamon’s famous BrickBattle map, Sword Fight on the Heights. In it, you can grab armor from the top of the mountain, or traverse the phantom plates and spinners to grab the armor there. If you take damage, you can also touch one of two heal pads, but they need time to reset to be able to heal another wounded victim. It’s the perfect place to practice your sword fighting skills!

Later, the map evolved into Sword Fight on the Heights II, introducing the Firebrand and Ice Dagger. The third reincarnation of the map introduced even more weapons, such as Illumina and Darkheart. Last (and definitely least), Sword Fight on the Heights IV came. It introduced the Ghostwalker, Windforce, and Touchstone. As more weapons came, the map changed with it. Although the place sees thousands of visits per day, many have abandoned it and moved to the original, where there are no special weapons and plenty of tough competition.

In the beginning, swords and players had something that satisfied all ROBLOX veterans and elite sword fighters: Collision. Back in the old days, the CanCollide setting in the sword was set to true. In other words, you couldn’t walk through the sword; it was a solid object. When this setting was intact, people found themselves flipping around the map. It was fun to do, and fun to watch. Today, sadly, the CanCollide has been set to false, and there’s almost no way to fix the swords and CanCollide setting of the players.

Not everyone is a fan of sword fighting, but many people have found great power with the sword. Some are even famous for their skills with the iron blade! ROBLOX is full of sword fighting legends, including Jacobxxduel, sparttan, Auskia, and Matusrules. Believe me; I have also found great skill with the sword, and have personally dueled all four of these sword fighters. They are legends. Dueling them is the equivelent of suicide if you don’t know what you’re doing. Beware!

The sword may not be the oldest weapon in ROBLOX, but it’s still both classic and unique. Never underestimate the power of the almighty iron blade, for if you face a sword fighter and have no experience with it, it will be the last thing you will ever do.

Alter Egos

29 04 2009

It may not have a whole lot to do with genuine ROBLOX history, but I thought I might as well post this so that people would know why I made the accounts. Here’s a list of other accounts I have on ROBLOX besides XiaoXiaoMan.

SrgtCross – This is the first clone account I ever created. It was always meant to be an anonymous alter ego, but I can’t remember why I chose to model a black cop from Need for Speed Most Wanted. I’m sure there was some good reason, but I just can’t recall. Sure, Cross is a badass cop, but that wasn’t the reason I made the account. Later, I gave it to a friend of mine who happened to be black.

FightermanXXM – The purpose of this clone was to house a special edition of Telamon’s next-gen sword fight place, Sword Fight on the Heights II. In the place, the ice dagger- an overused weapon in the game- was fake. It killed all who touched it. My main goal for the account was to get the Bloxxer badge, but I just didn’t have the time. Or the skill. So I abandoned it. Come Christmas 2008, I had completely forgotten that I had met (and got killed by) Telamon on that account.

XXMrobloxXXM – A joke I played on my old friend badyoyo. It wasn’t exactly the best of building; it was just a multi-floored Happy Home in Robloxia with a racetrack and a few extra things I just pulled out of free models (called All Models back then). Badyoyo wanted me to make a waffle house for some evil scheme, but I made this to piss him off. And boy, he was mad.

XXMBuildermanXXM – My lab account. My scripting skills took off with that account. I started with a simple onTouched() script door. Press the green button to open the door, press the red one to close it. It was my first successful script in ROBLOX. Later, I added Redyz’s zombies to the place. Sadly, ROBLOX updates destroyed them. Shortly after I built experimental HoverBots, the zombies broke. So I abandoned it.

Lamborghini4ever – This is the account I put my first attempt at a river ride on. The river ride was an idea I had a long time ago, then abandoned. But it’s still kinda fun to ride. Every now and then, I go back there for a little nostalgia. Explains where I got the River Rider idea from, doesn’t it?

Highway55 – I made this account for my entry to the ROBLOX June Action/Adventure video contest, Need for Speed: ROBLOX City. The place included a small background set, a bunch of cop cars, my car, a monster face changer for SrgtCross (this was when I gave the account to someone else), and an unused trap. You can visit the place, but there’s really nothing to do but drive around and try to make it to the end without falling off. After the contest ended, I abandoned the account.

XXMSpiritXXM – This isn’t really my account. It was made by a Matt Dusek/XiaoXiaoMan fanboy. As you can see by the statue of me on top of the mansion, I was the first to attempt the quest, and the first to win. This is where my fame began to take off.

Nintendique – Created to test a place called Street Racers RPG. It was a project I had that was inspired by both Need for Speed and Servano’s Resident Evil: Build to Survive place. It made me want to make my own. So I did. But the place is long abandoned. I don’t even know if it works anymore after all those ROBLOX updates.

XiaoXiaoSTUDIO – Originally created for Auskia so we could film something, but now I use it for most any filming project I have, including ROBLOX God of War. It’s one of the few ROBLOX accounts I haven’t quite abandoned, as I have found great use for it.

RobloxVacation – Not a lot of people know this is me. I created this account to house Meng Mountain Retreat. The place was always meant for personal use, but ever since more famous people such as mfsoccer94, Dignity, and freaked visited the place, it saw a little more popularity. My original plan was to keep the account’s true identity anonymous, but I guess I can tell you guys.

CrashFM – This isn’t necessarily a clone account. CrashFM just lets me use the account. CrashFM’s place, Need for Speed; Burnout Edition, started as an experiment with ROBLOX physics applied to… well, cars crashing into stuff. Which is always fun. ^_^ Before we knew it, the place saw more and more popularity. He told me that if I had Builder’s Club, he would’ve gladly split the profits with me. He’s such a nice guy. :3

XiaoXiaoSpartan – THIS… IS… SPARTA!! This account was created so I could- …Well, I didn’t have any specific purpose for it when I first created it. I made it when I Was cheating to get the Inviter badge. Teehee. But I did get use out of it. I used it as training grounds for Sword Fight on the Heights IV. I don’t get much use out of it unless I’m training others, considering I never go to Sword Fight on the Heights IV anymore. I stick with the original. The account houses the Spartan Colisseum. (For the record, Sparta does not actually have a colisseum. The colisseum is in Rome).

DoctorXiao – Because this account was meant to be a new lab account, I decided to model him as a mad scientist. He’s not only a model created to house my public demos for ROBLOX places, but it also, in a way, reflects the true madness within me. O_o But its main purpose is to store public demos of experimental places.

And that’s just about it. Those are pretty much all the accounts I remember. Stay tuned for more ROBLOX history. :D

Dear XXM; On Contests and Joining ROBLOX

28 03 2009

I..uhm. Can we be friends? If you wanna be friends just PM me back.

Oh and………couple of questions.
(1) What was your fav contest in ROBLOX
(2) How will you reply to this
(3) Why did you join ROBLOX?

:D thats all! I can’t think about any other questions for ROBLOX history.

From BladeKillerV1

Well first of all, I accept all friend requests. Even if I don’t know the guy. :P Needless to say, I’ll have PMed you back after I’ve finished this post. On to the questions!

1) Probably my favorite contest was the June Action/Adventure movie contest from 2008. I entered it and won for the category of Best Camera Work. Matusrules, SrgtCross and I all worked together to make a video called Need for Speed: ROBLOX City. Sadly, the video was taken down several months afterward because of one of those damn copyright infringement claims from those assholes at Warner Music Group. To make things worse, I lost it when I got a huge virus on my computer. :( But yeah, the video was a lot of fun to make, and the theme was favorable. My two favorite themes in movies and movie-making are action/adventure and comedy.

2) Uh, I don’t think I need to answer that one. It’s too obvious.

3) Well, I didn’t find out about ROBLOX by invitation (Share ROBLOX) or friends from the internet or real life. One night, I was playing Ragdoll Avalanche on the internet. As I was playing, I noticed an ad for the game. Curious, I followed the link, watched the video that used to be on the main page, took interest, and created an account. My first place was an obstacle course, inspired by several others I had played (Especially that of manta26). The first place I ever visited was uberubert’s Train Riders. I earned enough tickets to buy a bandana through logging on to ROBLOX and place visits. The first hat I ever got was the Bluesteel Viking Helm from the Bluesteel Gift of Long Years. I joined ROBLOX on January 17th, 2008. And here I am, about one year later. :D
